Kushti: How the age-old sport continues to draw huge crowd in Madhya Pradesh

Wrestling or Kushti remains one of the most popular sports in the region.

The 'dangal' or wrestling contests are the talk of town when they are held.

People sit atop roofs of shops, houses to see the bouts.

Now a days, separate women's wrestling is also organised at many places. Of course, they are more popular in small cities and towns of the state.

There is not much promotion or sponsorship, yet, there is strong crowd and interest among people. This is a photograph of Kushti in Vidisha sometime ago.

In rural areas, during local festivals, the bouts are organised. 'Pahalwans' are treated like celebrities. Rehan Pahalwan had won the competition and Pushpa in women's category.
